Fade in to... Irish Snapchat Queens ๐Ÿ‘‘

My Top Nine Irish Snapchatters! As my day-job involves long hours of writing, research, events, planning and creative meetings; most of which are done in front of a computer it can be hard to;

 a) keep myself on track with a blog (but I promise that's going to change!!)
..and
 b) focus on anything too heavy after work...

Now I love to read as much as I love a good Netflix binge so I'm never short of escapism ideas when there's time, but this past year or so Snapchat has become a real quick and entertaining wee treat in the evenings - just sitting back and seeing what my fave friends, bloggers and celebs have been up to, in less than ten minutes if I'm lucky!

I have a feeling this list will change and update a LOT as snapchat grows, so for now I'll share my Top Irish Snapchat ladies from the wonderful world of business and blogging! Then you can go forth and follow for beautiful, funny and interesting snaps! Please share your faves in the comments and give me some inspiration too! Oh and I'm on @mtotheshields lot's of basic b*tch coffee's, food and dogs but I must say some stunning Donegal scenery crops up too ;)

1. @Retroflame1 - Erika Fox (Retro Flame)

Retroflame Snapchat

Flame-haired Kerry blogger based in NYC, Erika Fox of Retro Flame is my favourite blogger hands-down, and her snapchat just makes you love her even more. Down-to-earth, well traveled (from her incredible family home in Kerry, to Coachella to the streets of NYC!) you'll get attainable fashion, travel tips, and honest advice all curated in an interesting, thoughtful way. She'll make you want to up and leave your daily-life for her living-the-dream blogger career, so be careful (she's worked her way there!)

2. @eimearvb - Eimear Varian Barry

Eimear Varian Barry Instagram

Cork Native based in the UK, Eimear VB is awesome, and I hate that word so I don't use it liberally! So she's a Mammy to two beautiful small children, and she's also this amazing stylist/model/social influencer who oozes minimalism - I don't understand how one person can be so happy and goofy and real, yet so cool and collected and stylish all at once. I always smile watching her snaps!

3. @tara_makeup - Tara O' Farrell (Tara Make Up)

Tara Make Up Snapchat

Ok if you're Irish and have even half an interest in beauty, and don't follow Tara O' Farell on snapchat then don't even finish reading this blog just go and do so!! Tonnes of honest tips for beauty buys from a very warm, knowledgeable Dublin based make-up artist and model. Met her at a masterclass recently and was struck by how genuine, funny and honest she was - her make up and skin care secrets (well, not-so-secret!) on snapchat are amazing and the products she recommends won't break the bank and can easily be found all over Ireland.

4. @rosemarymaccabe (Rosemary MacCabe)

Rosemary MacCabe Snapchat

Rosemary macCabe is a journalist, blogger and influencer who does all of the usual stuff that lifestyle heads on snapchat do, but with a witty twist. There are no holds barred with Rosemary who is Dublin based and she'll go from talking about getting her eyebrows done to her views on abortion in a matter of snaps - always with charm and truth so she's my cup of tea! Her foray into 5am Fit Fam type snaps made me really guilty but the snaps of her fab dog Coilรฉan more than make up for it.

5. @myshiningarmour (Nicki of My Shining Armour)

Nicki My Shining Armour Snapchat

Nicki is Kilkenny based, and is a proper ray of sunshine - always SO alert and positive (alarmingly so...I want what she's having!) she owns the magpie addicts go-to siopa My Shining Armour and her snaps are a mix of life as an entrepreneur and the reality of that, with glimpses of her stunning stock...quirky stationary, jewelry, party decorations all snapped so seamlessly, because before you know it you'rebuying pieces, and buying into Nicki's lovely personal brand to boot. That's how it's done right there!

6. @lcscloset Lorna Ruane (LCS Closet)

LCSCloset Snapchat

Another Irish lady making her way in NYC (I think there should be a documentary on these girls, RTE I'll glaaadly help out should this come to light - if it involves filming on location, naturally!) a Mayo girl, who is as honest as she is chic - who takes us through her days as a marketing exec and fashion blogger living in New York, giving us daily virtual tours, tips, outfit inspo and if you're lucky you might catch a peak of the Empire State building ;) Lorna's friends with the lovely Erika so they make cameos in one another's snaps from time-to-time.

7. @ciaraodoherty (Ciara O' Doherty)

Ciara O Doherty Instagram

Have only recently started following the breath of fresh air Ciara on snapchat but have followed her blog and other social media for years - you might notice Ciara from the likes of Ireland AM fashion slots, she is stylish and HILARIOUS! Love her personality which really comes across on snapchat - lots of travel and foodie snaps, and she also has thee best fashion finds which are affordable - think Adidas crop tops, personalised passport holders, she just inspires way to many buys now that I come to think of it...

8. @anouskapb (Anouska Proetta Brandon)

Anouska Proetta Brandon Instagram

I'm realising that almost all of the snappers on the list are Dublin based, but it makes sense I suppose as they're making a career from it and need to be where the action is- so another lady in the big smoke who is also an internationally famed fashion blogger is the lovely Anouska Proetta Brandon! Been a fan for years of this pioneering and savvy blogger. This girl gives me such wanderlust, has made me so excited for my hols to NYC and Vegas with her roadtrip snaps - soon enough you'll want a cat, be wearing head to toe monochrome and all of a sudden start saving hard for a designer handbag - Anouska is a trend-setter pure and simple and really sweet to match!

9. @hautesofabulous Rebecca O' Byrne (Haute So Fabulous)

Haute So Fabulous Snapchat

Last but certainly not least, in fact one of my very favourites on snapchat is Rebecca from Haute So Fabulous. This Dublin based blogger is very inspirational, documenting her glamorous world of high fashion shopping, decadent coffee's, strolls round pretty cities and jet setting but in way that's very grounded (does that make any sense?!) positive, grateful and fun and so sophisticated-ly put together, it's like if a young Audrey Hepburn had snapchat! Lot's of motivational and magical quotes sprinkled around too!

Now I'm off to have a cup of white tea, and catch up with all of the above!

Fade in to... Milan Fashion Week with Roz Purcell

Anyone that knows me might well be aware that I'm a bit of a Roz fan. For so many reasons other than having a massive style-crush! I really respect Rozanna's industrious and clever career path, her low-key relationship with Bressie (no attention seeking here, just a supportive, under the radar power-pair!), and yes, I have always loved her unique sense of style! The Irish model turned designer, blogger, foodie/fitness inspo is stylish, down-to-earth, naturally beautiful and an authority on attainable healthy living on her website, Natural Born Feeder.

I couldn't help but get pangs of fashion envy and inspiration while looking at Rozanna's snaps from #MFW (Milan Fashion Week) from her own Scribe by Roz tailored suits, to her designer and high street additions and pared-back beauty look, her style is seriously my cup of tea.  Girl crush of the highest degree....

Follow her on instagram at @rozannapurcell and don't forget to visit Natural Born Feeder for delicious recipes to help you maybe, just maybe get a hint of that Roz-glow!

Side Note; It is great to see how Bressie is so proactively raising awareness for mental health in Ireland, I love his previous youtube video on the topic where he speaks candidly about his own personal struggles, and I can't wait to read his book on the topic, 'Me and My Mate Jefferey.'

With all of the recent tragedies in Donegal and beyond, I think people really need to drop the act, shake the stigma, talk more, listen carefully and be kind to one another.

Fade in to... The Dress, New Novel from Kate Kerrigan!

I was delighted and perhaps a little honoured recently, to receive an early copy of a beautiful book, The Dress, by one of my favourite authors - Irish novelist, Kate Kerrigan. It was difficult not to judge this book by its cover... the stunning and elegant artwork was incredible and paved the way for a romantic and stylish tale which I devoured in a matter of days! I have a fondness for historical fiction, which is why I've loved Kate's previous novels; but this time we are brought back and forth between 1950's New York and modern day London, as we delve in to the lives and loves of distantly related Lily and Joy Fitzpatrick. Joy, a stunning New York socialite who made waves on the scene in her day, and Lily a quirky vintage fashion blogger who is top of her game on social media.

I am a girl who is obsessed with fashion but not a slave to trends, my personal style is very much a mixture of old and new - I love adding  an old, beautiful piece of vintage to my modern look. I trawl charity and vintage shops for one of a kind bits, enjoy finding my bargains and quality staples and love to find and wear old pieces that belong to my Mum. The intricate details in vintage clothing give us a glimpse of that era, vintage can be quite telling and a little magical. Elements from the day gone by add beauty and intrigue to the ordinary!

Follow Kate's #TheDress Pinterest Board -
Follow Kate's board #TheDress on Pinterest.

The same can be said of my taste in literature, while I love visiting the past, and generally lean towards books set in the early to mid 1900's, but sometimes a modern tale is refreshing and relatable - The Dress was a perfect melange of past and present. The ideal book for a lover of old and new! This book is the perfect fit for bookworms and fashionistas. It was exciting for me, as I knew I loved Kate's style of writing; the worlds she creates and strong women she depicts, so add some layers of fabulous fashion to the already perfect formula and I was sold!

Lily Fitzpatrick is a well renowned vintage fashion blogger, who is grieving the loss of her Grandad, Joe - who was an endearing and popular Irish man, whom Lily was very fond of. Whilst researching for her latest blog piece,  Lily becomes transfixed by a beautiful couture dress - worn by a breathtaking woman named Joy Fitzpatrick in 1950's New York, and designed by an unknown, Honor Conlon. Is Joys surname a coincidence? Using the power of the internet and her London fashion connections, Lily begins a journey of discovery. On her quest to get over her Grandfather's death, Lily reverts back to her first love, designing clothes, and attempts to uncover the past. We are next introduced to Joy's life of glamour, social climbing, marriage and haute couture. Without giving away too much, when the novel focused on Joy's life, those were by far my favourite chapters - this was a complex woman, who seemed to have it all, but the perfect facade starts to slip...

My late Grandmother Mary Murphy & her sister Sophie Sugrue in London in the 1950's.

Some of my favourite dresses to date...

A burgundy lace dress I wore to a business awards event during my first year of my current job, which I love. Bought in a Donegal boutique.

A floral boho inspired Asos dress I wore on the best holiday of my life in Greece.

Last minute panic buy for a family wedding a few weeks back, I wasn't keen on it at first but had a fantastic time and was very comfortable and felt elegant.

I imagined Joy to look like Miranda Kerr, tall, slim, chiseled cheek bones and waif like physique. With each of the different characters in The Dress, I could truly identify with the reasons behind their flawed behavior. Joy was deeply misunderstood by many of those around her and as I read, I found myself really rooting for her to find happiness. Author, Kate really understands the complexities of human nature, and deals with heavy themes such as alcoholism and depression in a very insightful and honest way.

Ethereal timeless beauty, Miranda Kerr.

Perfect!

How I envisioned Joy - is this the modern day version of her and Frank?

I fell head over heels for Kate's unique brand of fiction a few years back - my first read was Ellis Island, part of an enthralling trilogy following the spirited Ellie Hogan and her emigration adventures, set between Ireland and New York from the nineteen twenties throughout Ellie's unpredictable life. I loved those books so much that I've shared them with several friends since, as well as my Mum who is now a bigger Kate Kerrigan fan than I am, if possible! I feel that Kate's books are timeless/ageless classics that any generation can enjoy and learn from! The way in which Kate entwined beautiful fashion in this latest novel, #TheDress, proves style and elegance must play a part in the novelists life - she really understood both the sense of femininity and class in New York during the fifties/sixties but also the importance of style from a fashion bloggers perspective, how it's a lifestyle - modern character Lily really came alive and I almost wished she was real so I could follow her online, and see all of her latest thrift-shop finds!

'Kate Kerrigan's distinct and unique style of storytelling is in linking the ghosts of our pasts with modern dilemmas, interweaving yesterday with today in a mesmerizing and moving way. Just beautiful.'  - Cecelia Ahern

Kate has a lovely online presence herself where you can discover more about the Irish author and indeed #TheDress - you can find Kate on Twitter; @katekerrigan  Facebook KateKerriganAuthor  and Pinterest  You can also visit Kate's website http://www.katekerrigan.ie/

Tell us about #TheDress in your life, be it real or something you lust after, what is the story behind its significance?

Fade in to...Coachella Instagram Top 5

1. Rosie Huntington Whiteley

RHW won Coachella, the Californian music fest come fashion parade. Wearing a dreamy Chloe dress and a Coach bag, she nailed the angelic boho look in all of her effortless glory.

2. Millie Mackintosh

Millie's Coachella experience was a well documented delight as she championed her own MM2015 collection throughout, joined by her equally fashion forward Brit Fash Pack including DJ Zara Martin and Irish presenter Laura Whitmore.

3. Kate Bosworth

Kate Bosworth invented the laid back festival attire, year on year she never fails to impress with her perfect combination of eclectic hippy meets front row regular, Coachella 2015 was no different in her simple shift and Etro trophy jacket.

4. Daisy Lowe

Daisy to me, is the waking representation of true beauty. Her unique face and enviable curves make her different to most high profile models, love this casual gingham dress. Rarely seen without her host of famous friends include Poppy Delevigne, Pixie Geldof and Nick Grimshaw.

5. Alexa Chung

The human style bible dusted off her decks to DJ at this years Coachella, and done so sporting an ethereal Chloe smock, and beachy shell statement necklace. The over-sized look complimented her slight but tall frame but would make us mere mortals look insane.
